Client:

Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)

Problem:

Existing radars for medium-sized UAVs are not suited for persistent detection and tracking of vehicles and dismounts.

Solution:

Schafer provided comprehensive technical, management, and program execution support for the Vehicle and Dismount Exploitation Radar (VADER) system. VADER has the ability to monitor vehicle and personnel movement over large areas independent of atmospheric conditions. Schafer handled the VADER program from conceptual development through very successful program transition. The VADER project was sponsored by the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Office (JIEDDO) and DARPA.

Outcome:

The VADER man-hunting radar system is operating successfully for both Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and the Department of Homeland Security in the United States.
