Technology Development

Schafer has significant experience in system concept and technology development with a focus on innovative components, subsystems, and systems. Our design synthesis and analysis teams used advanced modeling and simulation packages, innovative figures-of-merit, and architecture assessment tools to determine the best balance between cost, schedule, and risk for our concept development programs. We strive to demonstrate technical feasibility of systems that can provide economic viability for our customers.

  • We have contract experience supporting projects from SBIRs to major defense programs. Relevant Schafer prime contracts in this service area include our:
  • Miniature Kill Vehicle (MKV) Technology Demonstration Program for SMDC/MDA
  • Miniature Kill Vehicle (MKV) System Concept Program for Space & Missile Defense Command (SMDC)/Missile Defense Agency (MDA)
  • Concept Exploration and Refinement (CE&R) Program for NASA HQ
  • Specialized Engineering and Project Support (SEPS) Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) from NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC)

Our strength in this area is providing unbiased, objective analysis and evaluation of technologies to benefit existing and future systems. We also have the capability to mature technology from the laboratory to fielded systems. Our facilities include several state-of-the-art laboratories configured to support modeling and simulation, software development and test, hardware prototyping and integration, hardware fabrication, network and system configuration and test, robotic system development and test, and Mobile Test Node integration and test.
