SEID Core Competencies

Schafer's Systems Engineering and Integration Division provides high quality technical products and services across a broad spectrum of disciplines through a specialized, experienced technical staff. Core competency areas include:

Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I)
Schafer provides support to many of our customers' SE&I organizations.  Our staff has expertise in a variety of general and specialized SE&I applications, including requirements development, analysis, and management; risk analysis and management, and specialty engineering.
Concept Design and Evaluation
As a prime contractor and as a subcontractor, Schafer has been responsible for a variety of system designs, on applications ranging from optical subsystems to complete vehicle systems including endo-and exo-atmospheric vehicles and the Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV).
 
Modeling and Simulation
Schafer maintains and uses a variety of industry-standard and in-house developed modeling and simulation packages including:
  • 3-dof and 6-dof missile and vehicle simulations:  POST3D, TAVSIM
  • Control system synthesis and analysis: Matlab, Simulink
  • Solid modeling: ProEngineering
  • Structural Analysis: ProEngineer
  • Optical System Design and Analysis: Zemax
  • Discrete Event Simulation: Extend
  • Cost Estimation and Analysis: in-house tools (activity and process-based)
  • Operational Analysis and Effectiveness: in-house statistical-based tools
 
Technology Development and Infusion
Through prime contracts and SBIR/STTR contract vehicles, Schafer has developed and tested technologies related to:
  • Miniature vehicles including kinetic kill vehicles and guided munitions
  • Solid state actuation systems
  • Advanced optical systems including lightweight optics
  • Terrain mapping algorithms and software

Information Architecture
Schafer has lead and support roles in Information Architecture activities on major missile defense programs.
   
Test and Evaluation
As a prime contractor and subcontractor, Schafer has experience conducting a variety of hardware and software tests in cost-effective manners.  We have conducted innovative, low-cost tests for our own technology applications and have provided test engineers/analysts for integrated flight tests for major missile defense programs.
 
Human / System Interface
We have experience in human-system interface design and interface through our own SBIR development activities as well as through support contracts to prime contractors on missile defense programs.
