Schafer Vallecitos Laboratory

SCHAFER LABORATORIES is a unique Division within Schafer Corporation. Our Division consists of scientists, engineers, technicians and administrative staff with a variety of backgrounds including nuclear engineering and physics, nuclear and analytical chemistry, and polymer and materials science.

Our largest customer is the Air Force (AF), whom we support with analytical services from our Schafer Vallecitos Laboratory (SVL) in Sunol, California. SVL is actually the home of two major laboratories supporting two different contracts for the Air Force. We have supported the AF for several decades in the areas of sample processing and isotopic, chemical, structural and optical analysis of materials.

Schafer Labs maintains an impressive suite of analytical equipment, considered world-class, including systems used for Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry, Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry, Electron Probe Microanalysis, and Secondary Electron Microscopy. Further, we maintain several optical microscopy workstations and class 100 clean rooms supporting sample processing, wet chemistry and various other chemistry related analytical techniques. In addition to analytical services provided to the AF, SVL has significant expertise in the design and build of custom, new mass spectrometry instrumentation. We also provide analytical services to commercial customers on a non-interference basis.
