James Heuer, Ph.D.

General Manager, Livermore Laboratory

Dr. Heuer heads the Schafer Laboratories Division where he ensures the production of high quality data with an emphasis on mass spectrometry, works to help advance the state-of-the-art in the analytical services the lab provides, and keeps the lab compliant with various personnel safety, environmental health and safety, security, and government property regulations.

Previously, Dr. Heuer served as Principal Engineer with the General Electric Company, where he was responsible for advancing state-of-the-art research in Analytical Electron Microscopy (AEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X–Ray Diffraction (XRD) techniques in support of AF. Dr. Heuer also worked for Rockwell International Science Center, where his responsibilities included the design, modeling, fabrication and characterization of a variety of highly specialized thin film optical devices.

Dr. Heuer earned his Ph.D, Master of Science degree, and Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of California.
