This past spring, Schafer was pleased to support Arlington Little League (ALL) in its spring 2015 season. Arlington Little League provides baseball experience for youth at many levels, where everyone plays in every game. This season, ALL supported over 1,300 players aged 4-12 in eight divisions of play. ALL strives to provide a balanced, competitive, yet fun learning environment for youth baseball. Teamwork, self-improvement, and sportsmanship join baseball skills as important goals of the program.
Schafer Government Services employee Steven Sundbeck serves as Umpire-in-Chief (UIC) for ALL, where he oversees a group of adult volunteers as well as teenage umpires, many of them in their first employment situation. The junior umpire program also strives to help the participants grow in responsibility and self-confidence.
Schafer sponsored the Pirates in the brand new 50/70 baseball division, ALL’s first offering of a division with leadoffs, stealing, and baseball as it is played in the big leagues (other than field size). Schafer’s contributions help ALL keep registration fees down for all participants (including scholarships for those who need it), as well as support operations and equipment purchases for the league.
