Schafer Laboratories Division has two operations on the west coast. At our Schafer Livermore Laboratory operation in Livermore, CA, we have one principal program — Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) target fabrication and a developing program for microfabrication of materials for High Energy Density Physics experiments at the DOE National Laboratories.
These programs are supported by a comprehensive capability in materials science and technology, microfabrication and assembly, precision metrology, and cryogenic physics and engineering. In Livermore, Schafer is also engaged in the development of advanced energy storage and control systems.
Schafer Vallecitos Laboratory is located in Sunol, CA. Two large programs at this operation are involved with verifying compliance with our nation's nuclear treaties. Our special expertise is nuclear materials characterization. We have world-class analytical chemistry facilities and personnel on this site, with state-of-the-art instrumentation in electron probes, x-ray spectroscopy, optical and electron microscopy, and mass spectroscopy.
